STUDIO POLICIES:

The following are our key policies as active participants at Throw & Build Pottery Studio for both students and members.

Open Studio Hours:

For Members:

Members at our studio, gets unlimited access to the studio during open studio hours of Mon 1-5pm, Tues -Sun: 10am – 9pm. There are wheels and hand building works stations dedicated to members.

For Multi-Week Classes:

Students registered for multi-week classes that includes studio access have full access to open studio.

Clay & Clay Limits:

Outside clay is not allowed into the studio. Clay can be purchased via the our portal for both students and members. After purchase please notify a staff member and they will assist you with your clay.

Members and students are limited to 75lbs of clay a month.

Clay cost is posted in the studio and can be found on the KilnFire web app.

Glazing:

Please be careful when moving glaze buckets. If you recklessly spill a glaze, you may be responsible for the cost of replacing it. It’s best to mix glazes before use. If a glaze appears to be too thick or too thin, please alert your instructor or studio staff. Members and students are not permitted to adjust glazes by adding or removing water.

Outside Glazes, underglaze and slips can be used. Please make sure they are specified for midfire cone 6. If you have any questions, please ask a staff member or instructor.

Firing & Pickup Completed Pieces:

As part of your classes, studio membership and specified workshops,we will bisque and glaze fire your ceramic pieces for you. Fired bisque pieces will be placed on the bisque shelf, and glazed pieces on the glaze shelf.

For members, unclaimed bisqued pieces will be donated or thrown away in 4 weeks, and glazed pieces in6 weeks.

For students, unclaimed bisqued pieces will be donated or thrown away in 2 weeks after class completion, and glazed pieces in 6 weeks.

If you build ceramic pieces that are larger than 10in an any direction, your pieces may take longer than usual to fire your work.

We will do our best to accommodate you, and communication is key, please talk to a staff member if you need your pieces done by a certain date.

Cancellation Policies: 

For Studio Memberships: 

Email membership@throwandbuild.com to cancel your subscription within 14 days of your monthly start date.

For Classes & Workshops: 

To request a cancellation and refund, email info@throwandbuild.com.

Should a class not fill sufficiently, we may cancel it one week prior to the first class session.

Refunds will be credited back within one week.  

  • 100% of tuition (minus $15 processing fee) will be refunded if a student elects to drop a class no later than 14 days before the day of the first class.
  • 80% of tuition (minus $15 processing fee)will be refunded if a student drops a class within 7 business days before the first class meeting.
  • 50% of tuition (minus $15 processing fee) will be refunded if a student drops a class within 3 business days before the first class meeting.
  • 0% of tuition is refunded if cancellation is made within two days of class for any reason except for documented medical emergencies. There are no other exceptions.
  • No refunds or credit will be given for missed classes.
  • We do not transfer registration between classes. We can offer you a refund as per the policies above, and you may then rebook yourself for a class that fits better into your schedule.

Cleaning:

You are required to clean up your work area when done working, including wheel head , wheel basin, stool, the floor surrounding your wheel, your bucket, tools. When using the extruder, glaze buckets, glaze table, hand building tables, or any other common area after you have finished using it. Replace all tools, glazes, oxides, banding wheels, etc. after you are finished using them. Clean and wipe down the wedging table after use. DO NOT Leave any clay on the wedging tables.

Sanding:

Do not scrape or sanding the studio to prevent hazardous dust, if you are, please sand in the outside area. Wet sanding is encouraged.

Leaving When the Studio Closes:

Do not stay past the end of the posted open studio hours.

Equipment Training:

If you haven’t been trained to use equipment like the extruder, slab roller, do not operate it. Seek staff assistance for proper training. Misuse leading to equipment damage will result in liability for any incurred costs.

Personal Property:

Do not use others’ tools without direct permission. Avoid touching items on shelves that aren’t yours.

Kids:

Students are not allowed to bring their kids to class.

Member and Students are allowed to bring kids to Open studio while they are working.

Personal Items & Jewels:

Please store your coats and personal items in the coat rack and cubbies in upstairs area. Avoid leaving valuables like rings in apron pockets or at the studio. We are not liable for lost or stolen items, so please keep track of your belongings. Your vigilance can prevent loss.

Minimum Age Requirements:

Refer to specific class and requirements for age requirements.

Minors will need a parent/ guardian to agree to the Throw & Build’s Hold Harmless Policy on their behalf.

Typically all classes and membership minimal age is 16, without accompanying adult.

PARTICIPATION WAIVER: Agreement at Registration of Classes, Workshops, Camps & Studio Membership

Each participant at Throw and Build Pottery Studio must agree that they have read, understand, and agree to the Participation Waiver written below.

Equal Access:

Throw & Build Pottery Studio is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment and ensures that no individual is discriminated against based on age, race, color, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, physical or mental disability, or religion..

Class Schedule Modifications or Cancellations:

The class schedule provided is for general information only. Throw & Build reserves the right to modify the content and timing of classes without prior notice. Any changes will be communicated via email.

Emergency Medical Consent:

I hereby consent to my or my child’s participation in the activities and programs offered by Throw & Build. I authorize the organization and its staff, including employees, volunteers, or agents, to provide or seek emergency medical treatment on my or my child’s behalf if necessary.

Consent for Photography/Video:

I grant permission for myself, or my child, to be photographed, recorded, or videotaped before, during, and after classes or activities for the purpose of marketing or publicity by Throw & Build. I understand that these images, likenesses, and/or voices may be used without monetary compensation, and I release Throw & Build, along with its representatives, employees, and volunteers, from any claims related to libel, slander, invasion of privacy, or any other cause arising from the use of these materials in promotional activities.

Acknowledgment of Participation Risks:

I confirm that I am at least eighteen (18) years old and fully competent to engage in the recreational activities sponsored by Throw & Build that I am currently registering for. I acknowledge and fully understand that participating in these activities involves inherent risks, which may include, but are not limited to, the possibility of serious physical injury, death, illness, or infection from a disease or virus that could be transmitted by another participant, volunteer, or staff member. I recognize that these risks may arise or result directly or indirectly from my participation in the activities.

In full awareness of these risks and in consideration of the opportunity to participate in Throw & Build-sponsored activities and/or use of their facilities, I voluntarily assume all risks of injury, damage, illness, infection, or harm that may occur as a result of my involvement. Furthermore, I, on behalf of myself, my heirs, assigns, and executors, hereby release and hold harmless Throw & Build Pottery Studio, its agents, legal counsel, directors, employees, representatives, and volunteers from any and all claims, lawsuits, or rights of recovery that I, my family, assigns, children, or heirs may have for any personal injury, death, illness, infection, or other consequences resulting from my informed and voluntary participation in these activities.
